La Meridiana in Tuscany #20.2019 Saggar firing using Soluble Salts with Marcia Selsor     May 5 - 11, 2018 in Italy
Throwing/handbuilding. Intermediate +
In this hands-on workshop Marcia Selsor will share knowledge of using this high-bred technique. We will experiment with saggar firing in combination with terra sigillata and the use of soluble salts as colorants and some other alternative smoke firing techniques.
The ceramic pieces both thrown or sculpted that we will create will be appropriate for picking up the fumed patterns on the surfaces and be of a size to fit into the saggars.  When they dry we will apply Terra sig, burnish and bisque. We will use soluble salts and  sawdust to be smoked inside with the pieces. These pieces will be fired in a raku kiln.
The workshop will be taught to a small group of maximum eight students in the Nature Studio in the gardens of La Meridiana, to be reached climbing a set of steps.
The total cost of the course is 1100 euros      Deposit: 400 euros
The workshop fee includes the following
Tuition of 6 – 8 hours per day instruction,  Studio open 12 hours per day
All materials and firings
Lodging in double room; single room on request, add 200 euros
Welcome dinner and welcome breakfast, final dinner
